I've been charged with sourcing a high quality expression of Isle of Jura. Budget is preferrably under £100 but an extra £20-£30 is manageable if worth it. It can be either an independent or official bottling but given availability is important obscure and/or historic bottlings from single casks might be a bit challenging.

Any thoughts? The remit probably doesn't include the standard range (which is just about to be reshougled) but if there is a consensus for say the 21yo then that'll do. Just to make it slightly easier/more particular if it came from an active cask where the wood/previous occupant has had a say in the character that would be ideal.

Thanks

Never been a huge fan of Jura, i can usually taste the stillmans wellie boots burning against the still so i wouldn't know what a high quality expression was like,
Sorry no help what so ever.

The next tasting: Kilderkin, Thursday April 12th 'Fabulous 50s". Tenuous! But hosting a tasting of 50yo whiskies isn't too realistic. Having said that we'll try a 50yo 1967 Delord Armagnac 40%. All the bottles are 50cl: Nikka Straight from the Barrel high strength blend, Windsor 17yo (allegedly the first "super-delux" brand of Scottish whisky) and Elements Peat 45% + another yet TBC.

The Windsor was fine, it tasted long in bottle but I don't think that could have been the case. Straight from the barrel was a bit more in your face than I remember it which is a shame. The strength was too obvious and what I take to be youth didn't let the whisky open up. Smelt good though. The Armagnac was typically a fruit bomb and dry but it's hard to say much more. A Koval Bourbon was a welcome bounce of sweet fun then the Elements was a suitable finale: peaty and just bold enough - not too sharp, a very good bottling.

A bit of a sherry theme next time:

Vega 40yo 1977 - 01/2018 blended malt matured in Spanish & American oak 400 bottles

Tamdhu Batch strength No.3 58.3% sherry cask matured

SMWS Exotic Cargo Batch 2 blended malt 2006 11yo 1st fill Spanish oak sherry hogsheads 50%

Glenglassaugh private sherry octave peated spirit 02.05.12 - 13.11.17

Kilchoman Coull Point 46% travel retail exclusive 4 & 5yo matured in fresh Bourbon casks with the 4yo component finished in oloroso sherry butts for 6 weeks.

At : The Kilderkin, 65 Canongate, Edinburgh, 3.5.18.

Bang goes my anonymity.

+ I just re-read the post:

''all bootled Scottish whiskies since Daftmill'. It should have read "Maltmill" - too many mills.

Rock music themed tasting:-

The tasting is going to be on Thursday 24th May at The Kilderkin £25.

Dress code - think Alice Cooper (a whisky reference there) or Kiss.
