Well we're only a month or so from this year's Speyside WF.
I plan on attending again this year, It will be my fourth. Doing another side trip to Islay for 4 days as well. Dropping by to visit Rab and have a few mystery malts, picking up my stash from under his stairs. I also plan on visiting Wolfburn at the end of the trip.

Hi Dave, have put fresh bog rolls in the downstairs lavvie, your stash is safe, have some interesting bottles from Martin for you to sample, and I am busy making space by draining the dregs shelf.
Is Graeme pitching up here at the same time as you and Madonna?
Roll on April.

Cheers, Rab.

We're picking up Graeme at the Aberdeen airport. We'll be dropping in to your place on Friday the 21st.

Hi Dave,
Jon and Vikki might hopefully be up for the Canuck Shebeen weekend, so warn Graeme round two is on the cards, and Vikki takes no prisoners! As you already know, hehehe.
I have some great drams on the shelf, unopened, and waiting.

Cheers, Rab.

Sounds like this could be a competition fit for Friar's Carse. All you need is an ebony whistle.

Hi Raymondo,
Jon and Vikki are definitely coming up for round two with Graeme and Dave, and I fear it will take more than an ebony whistle to keep them at arm’s length. I might have to hire the local bouncers to keep order.
Intrigued by your reference to a Friar’s Carse, not a phrase with which I am acquainted. What does it mean?
Looking forward to a couple of good tasting nights, and Buphendra’s port finished cask will be ready for drining, so it will be a grand weekend.

Cheers, Rab.

A famous drinking trophy competed for by Capt Riddell of Glenridell, Fergusson of Craigdarroch and Laurie of Maxwellton, at which Robert Burns was present. The bacchanalian revelry took place at Friar's Carse part of which I think is now The Crichton Institute and isn't far from Burns farm at Ellisland. The last person standing (who could still manage to blow the whistle) was deemed the winner and got to retain the whistle until he was challenged again. It came originally from Denmark to Scotland but had been competed for in Poland, Russia and Sweden.
The "Whistle o' Worth I think is a Burn's song. Unfortunately I've no idea where the whistle is now but if you produce a whistle and place it on the table when Jon and Vikki arrive, it could be quite a party.
A really useful bit of information think ye not young Rab!

It sounds like we're going to have to rest up for that weekend!!
We had a great time two years ago when Jon and Vikki came to visit.
Rab, do you know if Martin has those plastic blow up sleeves you can put on the bottles for shipping??
This will be our fourth trip to Scotland and our third Speyside WF. See you in 11 days.

Well Raymond, you have wakened a memory of that which was long forgotten in my misspent youth in the late 50s.
My father owned the Palmerson Hotel in Maxwelltown, and at that time, Jimmy McGowan was my best pal and his dad was the head baker at the Crichton, and all the stories of Burns, The Frierskerse, The Hermitage, the ivied cott have come to the fore.
Indeed Burns used a diamond to scratch verses on the window pane at the ivied cott.
I have never been a great reader of the Bard’s work, other than the shorter verses and songs.
I have a copy of the complete work of Burns, and am ashamed to say it is seldom opened, and even then, usually as a reference book.
The Crichton now is nothing like it was when I was a lad. In my day, it was a ‘mental asylum’ and it was huge. It had a laundry, a bakery and massive kitchens and vast gardens.
I suppose I should have looked for the Friar’s Carse on the internet!

Cheers, Rab.

Rab - I fear the internet would not have told the tale as well as Raymundo , so by not looking it up you were enriched , rather than informed.

We lose so much , by having too much to hand , the tale told is always better than the event reported , even an old hack , gin yersel would concede thon?
